Our apartment in Chalet Basilisk on the Riederalp in Valais is more than just a holiday apartment for us. It's a piece of family history.

It was wonderful to wake up in the morning and enjoy breakfast in a beautiful and cozy apartment with a magnificent mountain panorama; to sit in the sun on the balcony and look out into the valley; to spend the evening together having raclette.

Summer at 1,950 meters

In summer, Riederalp shows its green side. The meadows are in bloom, the mountain paths lead right past the front door, and somewhere a cowbell is always ringing.
A coffee on the balcony in the morning, then out into the mountains – for hiking, biking or simply to start walking and see where the path leads.
And sometimes the best-laid plans aren't plans at all.
A book on the bench. A glass of wine with a view of the mountains. A long evening at the table. Or simply doing nothing at all.
Winter at 1,950 meters
Snow · Silence · Winter bliss
When the first snow falls, Riederalp becomes a different world.
Everything becomes quieter. The paths turn white, the mountains even more impressive, and a walk quickly turns into a small winter adventure.
Skiing, snowshoeing, sledding or simply trudging through the snow – and then back to the warm chalet.
Shoes off. Drink something warm. Snuggle up.
And of course there's Rùnar, for whom winter up here is the greatest happiness anyway.
